Installation Timelines & CostÂ
First battery is higher cost includes controller and more of the install costs. Beyond first battery is minimal labor and minimal material cost
Backup projects take longer to install than non backup projects
Common Customer Install Issues
Customers are not informed about the duration of the battery and how backup works
Whole Home Backup
Whole home backup generally requires at a minimum of 2 batteries
Larger the energy profile the more batteries required (depending on battery size)
Whole home backup will last depending on size of battery and how much load you pull from the batteries
Not all areas of a home are backed up on backup
The install crew will meet with homeowner and will plan with the homeowners which circuits will be backed up.
Backup Planning
Use lightspeed storage guide to plan with the customer and decide how many batteries
What circuits do they want to backup
Backup or Non backup battery (provides more savings and is the type to use in utilities with export rates)
For Non-Backup batteries, Self–Consumption mode is required.
Capacity and Output
How many they need with what they need to backup
Inverter and battery type need to match
Choose correct post utility rates for states like CA, IL (see the TPO utility guide in the freedom lightspeed resource center)
Installing a battery may trigger a change order for a Main Panel Upgrade (MPU)
